~1,500 square foot mural at the Moody Center. This longhorn dude serves as a guardian spirit and cultural ambassador for the diverse and creative communities of Austin. Accompanied by the iconic bats of the Congress bridge, the ambassador greets the guests of the Moody Center while having a drink under the shade of an oak tree. The phrase “Hola Friend” serves as a cultural bridge between the Spanish speaking and English speaking communities of Austin - a kind greeting that celebrates diversity.

I believe my artistic style and vision are a direct result of growing up in Austin, and I think of my creatures as physical embodiments of the weird and imaginative spirit of Austin. They symbolize the unique creative energy that makes Austin such a dynamic place to live. And when featured in public art and murals, my creatures are tools for building connections among diverse groups of people. Because my creatures are not tied to a specific group or religion, they can ignite conversations and memories about mythological creatures from cultures all over the world. They can also create a new Austin mythology around which diverse groups can identify together.
